Overview The Enabling Technologies Development Program (ETD, formerly the Demand Response Enabling Technology Development) is a research and development program funded by the California Energy Commission (CEC) through the Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) Program. The purpose of the ETD Program is to develop enabling technologies in the areas of:
The goal is to develop new and innovative technologies that will lead to 10× the capabilities of current products at 1/10× the cost. An additional even more challenging goal is to also achieve 10× reliability. The project also promotes research collaboration between the universities, national laboratories, and private industry. In 2009, the i4Energy Center was formed as an collaboration between CIEE, the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS), and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) to facilitate and promote research on system-integrated, information technology based, enabling technologies to achieve better energy efficiency, demand response, and electric distribution. The research activities of the ETD program are included as part of the portfolio of projects within the research scope of the i4Energy Center. |
