California Energy Commission

The CEC is California's primary energy policy and planning agency. Its Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) program, supporting California's energy and environmental policies and goals, is one of the most extensive research, development, and demonstration efforts ever undertaken at a state level. A close partner with the CEC, CIEE is a major resource in implementing the PIER program and advancing work in its key research areas.Visit website »

California Public Utilities Commission

In working to ensure safe, reliable utility service and infrastructure at reasonable rates, protect consumers, and safeguard California's environment, the CPUC is committed to long-term strategic planning for energy efficiency. It designs, implements, and evaluates energy-efficiency programs for investor-owned utilities, local governments, and others. CIEE plays a significant role in this planning, and serves the CPUC with expertise in program evaluation, behavior and decision making, demand response, and renewable energy. Visit website »

U.S. Department of Energy

DOE's overarching mission is to advance national, economic, and energy security. It pursues this mission in part by promoting scientific and technological innovation. CIEE and DOE coordinate many research efforts that have U.S. and California policy interests in common, share research results, and together fund research projects. Visit website »

Pacific Gas & Electric

One of the largest combination natural gas and electric utilities in the United States, PG&E's primary business is the transmission and delivery of energy. With California's other investor-owned utilities, PG&E supports several initiatives that are facilitated and administered by CIEE. Among them are the deployment of pilot demand response programs (supported by California's electric IOUs) and participation in the UC/CSU/IOU Energy Efficiency Partnership, which has implemented monitoring-based commissioning in buildings on UC and CSU campuses. Southern California Edison

SCE's mission is to provide reliable, affordable electric service to central, coastal and southern California. With California's other investor-owned utilities, SCE supports several initiatives that are facilitated and administered by CIEE. These include the deployment of pilot demand response programs (supported by California's electric IOUs) and of monitoring-based commissioning in buildings on UC and CSU campuses. Through the State Partnership for Energy Efficiency Demonstrations (SPEED), SCE is currently collaborating with CIEE and PIER in the planning for the zero-net-energy "redesign" of the UC Santa Barbara Recreation Center. Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD)

Serving Sacramento County and part of Placer County, SMUD works to increase energy efficiency, protect the environment, reduce global warming, and lower the cost of serving its region. With the sharpest peak loads of any California utility, SMUD has long interest in energy efficiency technology and in CIEE-managed research, development, and demonstration activities to reduce peak energy use. SMUD was an original contributor to the pool of energy-research funds from utilities that preceded the PIER program. Visit website »

Los Angeles Department of Water & Power

The nation's largest municipal utility, LADW&P serves the water and electricity needs of the city of Los Angeles. It was an early participant in California energy research as an original contributor to the pool of funds from utilities that preceded the PIER program. Visit website »

Southern California Gas Company

Like California's other investor-owned utilities, SCGS works with CIEE as part of the UC/CSU/IOU Energy Efficiency Partnership. Through the SPEED program, CIEE and PIER support the partnership's monitoring-based commissioning and training and education programs on UC and CSU campuses. Visit website »
