Assistant Project Scientist,
A skilled specialist in research support, Laura Mehrmanesh is the technical anchor of CIEE’s Berkeley-based team focused on innovations for the electric grid. She has broad experience as an engineer, science communicator, and cultivator of research partnerships, working with firms focused on smart-grid technology deployment, nanotechnology, and defense systems. She brings this experience coordinating diverse research teams to CIEE, along with her versatility, fresh perspective, and enthusiasm.
Laura earned her bachelor’s degree in physics from Bryn Mawr College, and her Ph.D. in electrical sciences and computer engineering from Brown University, where her dissertation focused on nanotechnology. Away from work, Laura has equally diverse accomplishments. She is a math and science tutor, and has hosted seven foreign exchange students (she was one herself in Russia). She does Irish dancing, makes jewelry, snowboards, and “twirls fire,” manipulating objects that are on fire in an art that originated in Samoa and is practiced in many places around the world.
