The California Institute for Energy and Environment (CIEE) at the University of California, Berkeley, in partnership with the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA), is pleased to announce the selected recipients of California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment – Core Climate Research Program. The Assessment aims to support projects that contribute to a better understanding of climate-related vulnerability at various scales and inform policies, plans, programs, and guidance to promote effective and integrated action to safeguard California from climate change.

For the Fifth Assessment, CIEE coordinated the selection of 15 projects from a highly competitive solicitation of 87 proposals. The selected proposals, which will receive more than $5 million in funding, span a range of critical topics for climate research that were identified through a series of workshops led by the State. These projects will collectively fill demonstrable gaps in the scientific literature related to understanding and adapting to climate impacts in California.
“CIEE has been there to support California’s climate change assessments since they began in the early 2000s,” said Eric Lee, CIEE’s program manager for the Fifth Assessment – Core Climate Research Program. “We are pleased to be able to continue our partnership with the State and look forward to seeing the progress and impactful findings that the Fifth Assessment project teams produce.”
