The California Institute for Energy and Environment is pleased to welcome Emilio Camacho as a new research analyst. In his new role, Emilio supports the institute’s financial and research projects by coordinating budgets, timelines, and collaboration.

Emilio’s interest in energy began during his undergraduate studies at UC San Diego, where an energy economics course sparked his curiosity about how data and policy intersect. After earning his degree in mathematics and economics, he went on to support energy planning and strategy for the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians  He later moved into the private sector, joining a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery startup focused on supply chain development and clean-tech growth.

Having seen firsthand the Blue Lake Rancheria microgrid in Humboldt County and the energy challenges faced by tribal nations, Emilio is particularly excited about CIEE’s EcoBlock project, which explores strategies for resilience and sustainability through neighborhood-scale retrofitting. It represents a critical step in making distributed energy systems more accessible across California, he says, “and I’m honored to be able to contribute toward that goal.”
