Merwin Brown, Senior Advisor, Electric Grid Research, CIEE, has been reappointed by the U.S. Secretary of Energy, the Honorable Ernest J. Moniz, as a member of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Electricity Advisory Committee (EAC) for a 3rd two-year term. As a full committee member, Dr. Brown provides DOE advice concerning critical issues in defining strategy on the long-range planning and priorities for the modernization of the Nation’s electricity delivery infrastructure. He will continue to serve as the chairman of the DOE EAC Energy Storage subcommittee, and on its Leadership Team, Smart Grid subcommittee, and Grid Modernization Initiative working group.

The EAC was formed to help DOE in carrying out its mission and meeting requirements of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. It reports to the DOE Assistant Secretary for Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability, currently the Honorable Patricia Hoffman.

After 45+ years working in the electric industry at electric and gas utilities, national labs and the University of California, Dr. Brown has become an internationally known researcher on issues related to the electricity grid.
